Lot 1326 RARE AND DESIRABLE SPRINGFIELD M1 GARAND GAS TRAP
CYLINDER. Rarely offered as a stand-alone item, this gas cylinder would be an absolute necessity to restore an early gas trap M1 Garand rifle. The cylinder is marked on top of the ring with "D 28289" drawing number. The forward end of the cylinder is marked "5" on top behind the front sight mount. Gas cylinder has early type 1 flutes. The muzzle plug and its retaining screw are present. The muzzle plug is marked on top with "O". Front sight assembly and stacking swivel assembly are not present. Included in the lot is an approximately 1 7/8" length of an original barrel muzzle which includes the threaded portion. The muzzle is marked with three "P" and what appears to be a "1". CONDITION: the cylinder retains only a very small amount of its original finish in protected areas, showing the wear, scratches and handling marks commensurate with service use. The interior of the gas cylinder is smooth and shiny except for a moderate area of what appears to be carbon deposits. The muzzle plug shows a small amount of original finish, but has wear, dents and handling marks. The plug fits snugly in its recess. The barrel end with its visible rifling is notably upset on the muzzle end. (02-26033/RW). NON-GUN. $800-1,200.
