Lot 1325 VERY EARLY PRODUCTION U.S. SPRINGFIELD M1 GARAND
GAS TRAP RECEIVER AND PARTS. Cal. 30-06. S# 6803. Bbl. 24". Throat gauges 3.0. Muzzle gauges 7.0. Barrel marked on top "D35448-32-A-80-C-3" & "crossed cannons". Barrel marking on the right side shows only "-S-". Receiver marked on right front "D 28291". Bolt from gas trap era is marked on top "D 28287-1 / J7". Operating rod w/ relief cut is unmarked. T105-E1 rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Short fork early type follower arm. Gas cylinder is marked on right side "D-35449-SA". Cross slot gas cylinder lock screw. Trigger housing is marked "D 28290". Hammer marked "C 46008-1". Safety marked "C46015-6SA". Early milled trigger guard w/ the rear circular gripping surface. Drawing number "C 46025". Walnut stock & front handguard are present. Buttstock is marked only w/ partial "P" proof under grip. Buttplate is not present. Buttstock has the late-type cut for the trap buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has well-worn arsenal rework finish w/ numerous handling marks. Metal is overall gray & patina w/ wear, light oxidation & shallow pitting. Pitting is most notable at the rear of the barrel & under the wood line of the receiver. Gas cylinder has no remaining finish. Barrel & gas cylinder have areas of red paint crudely applied. Bore has worn lands turning dark in the grooves w/ scattered shallow pitting throughout. (25-2925, 02-24590-50/RW). MODERN. $1,000-2,000.
