Lot 1324 ASSEMBLED SPRINGFIELD ARMORY GAS TRAP M1 GARAND
SEMI-AUTO RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 45940. Bbl. 23 1/4" including custom gas trap. Bbl. markings are not present on the right side. Flush nut aperture rear sight w/ authentic "B8872" marked cover. Blade front sight w/ flared protective ears. Gas cyl. is finished bright. Receiver serial number is in correct range from April 1940 to August 1940. Receiver marked at right forward end "REP 7 / D28291-1". Receiver does not appear to have seventh rd. modification. Operating rod is marked "D35382-1-SA" w/o relief cut. Round front spring & Keystone type spring on short fork follower rod. Walnut stock set. Buttstock has been modified to eliminate the relief cut for the trap & is equipped with the solid checkered buttplate. Buttstock is marked on the right side w/ faint boxed "SA / SPG". CONDITION: stock set has worn arsenal rework finish w/ numerous handling marks. Buttstock has 1" crack behind receiver tang & crack extending 5" forward from left front corner of mag well w/ large missing chip. 2" crack w/ small missing chip on right front corner of mag. well. Metal has well worn finish turning gray w/ spots of light oxidation. Operating rod has been polished & refinished ahead of handle. Spring assembly does not allow easy function of the rifle & likely would need gunsmith attention. Bore has lightly worn lands w/ frosted appearing grooves. (25-2727/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,250.
