Lot 1301 DESIRABLE WWII DUTCH CONTRACT JOHNSON SEMI-AUTO

MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# A3307. Bbl. 22". Barrel is marked w/ encircled sword "IO" proof. Also marked "J.A. / .30-'06". Bayonet lug is present. Aperture rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. These interesting rifles were originally offered to the U.S. military in competition w/ the M1 Garand rifle. A factory was set up in Cranston, RI, to manufacture these rifles, which were purchased in quantity by the Dutch military for service in the East Indies, some of which were delivered and used there. Those which were not deliverable due to the Japanese attack were taken-up by the United States Marine Corp who used them in limited numbers early in the war. Receiver is marked on top "CAL 30-06 / SEMI AUTO / (JOHNSON AUTOMATICS) / MODEL OF 1941 / MADE IN PROVIDENCE, RI, U.S.A.". Receiver is marked at left rear w/ Cranston Arms in inverted triangle. Also marked w/ the five-pointed Dutch acceptance "star". Serial numbers are not matching as this was not done as the time of manufacture. Walnut stock set. Early production stock & handguard, not laminated at front & rear of magazine. Fine checkered stamped buttplate. WWII vintage green web sling. Markings are slightly obscure & sling has small areas of deterioration. CONDITION: stock set has lightly worn original finish w/ scattered small scratches & handling marks. Metal retains a large degree of its lightly worn original parkerized finish. Blued magazine has notable wear & scratches. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (25-3901/RW). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
