Lot 1281 EARLY ORIGINAL 1966 DATED COLT AR-15 MODEL SP1

RIFLE. Cal. 223. S# SP06282. Bbl. 20". Manufactured in 1966. A beautiful example of a very early Colt AR-15. This example has several of the early features often replaced in design by the mid to late 1960's. Threaded barrel is terminated w/ 3-prong flash hider. Barrel marked "12" on bottom, approximately 1" rear of the muzzle. Also marked "M" & the Colt Verified Proof Triangle at 4-O'Clock, under the sight post base. Triangular "Beavertail" handguards retained w/ strait wall delta ring. Type 1 bolt carrier key w/ no milled step down at the end of the tube. Bolt marked "MP" & retained w/ Type 2 steel cotter pin. Bolt carrier has no forward assist serrations. Type 2 Disconnector w/ no tail. Type 1 Edgewater 2-piece buffer. Early shoulder stock w/ rubber butt plate & no trap door. Type 1 retaining screw w/ no drain hole. Lower receiver marked "COLT / AR-15 / CAL. .223 / MODEL SP1 / SER. SP06282" on left side mag-well. Buffer tube retaining roll pin hole present at rear of receiver. Black nylon sling. MAGS: 1 Colt aluminum 30 rd. CONDITION: decently matching finish on upper & lower receivers retains full coverage w/ only gentle thinning on high spots & in areas of mechanical intervention. Typical thinning below carry handle from prior scope mounting. Markings clear & crisp. A beautiful example of a very early rifle. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Bright bore w/ visible rifling. (25-6556/JZ). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
