Lot 1264 DESIRABLE HOWA ARMALITE AR-180 SEMI-AUTOMATIC

RIFLE. Cal. 5.56mm. S# S12289. Bbl. 18". 1 of only approx. 3,900 AR-180 semi-automatic rifles mfg. in Japan by Howa and imported by Armalite. Left side of the upper is marked with the Armalite logo, followed by the model and cal. designations above "MFG FOR ARMALITE INC COSTA MESA CALIF/ BY HOWA JAPAN PATENTS PENDING". Receiver is marked with the S# "S12289", with research indicating that this was likely one of the last AR-180 rifles produced by Howa. Metal components exhibit a phosphate finish overall, save for on the bolt, charging handle, and 3-prong flash hider, which exhibit a blue finish. 2-piece ventilated black synthetic handguard, pistol grip, and side-folding buttstock. Standard AR-180 post front sight / piston tower (with integral bayonet lug) and 2-position dual aperture rear sight graduated "200" and "400". Mag. is absent. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory finishes, exhibiting scattered superficial handling marks and scratches (predominately on the left side of the upper), with some scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Bore is bright, exhibiting areas of mild to moderate pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Black synthetic furniture shows scattered marks and scratches from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-89/MLW).
