Lot 1253 EXCEEDINGLY FINE HECKLER & KOCH SP89

AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH FACTORY SHIPPING BOX. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 21-16483. Bbl. 4 3/4". SP89 semi-automatic pistol mfg. in West Germany by Heckler & Koch and imported by HK Inc. in Sterling, VA in 1990. The SP89, introduced circa. 1989, was produced by Heckler & Koch in response to the ATF restricting the importation of the HK94 after it was deemed to not serve a "sporting purpose". The SP89 was short lived, with less than 16,000 pistols believed to have been imported prior to the implementation of the 1994 Crime Bill, which banned its importation. The left side of the mag. well is marked with the cal. designation, with HK's mfg. and importer information marked on the right. Top of the receiver is marked "HK SP89", followed by the S#, as well as a triad of proofs consisting of an Eagle/N commercial nitro proof (repeating on bbl. and bolt), a "KA" (90) date code, as well as an Ulm Proof House antler. Steel 2-position trigger pack housing is marked "0" and "1". Metal components exhibit a black enamel finish overall, save for on the bolt carrier, rear sight assembly, and trigger pack, which exhibit a phosphate finish. 1-piece single pin black synthetic handguard (extending approx. 1 3/8" past the unthreaded muzzle) with integral hand stop, thumbrest pistol grip, and receiver end cap with sling swivel and loop. Standard SP89 pattern post front sight and 4-position drum rear sight. Handguard, receiver end cap, and bolt exhibit a "JA" (90) date code ("J" used in place of a "K" on parts excluding the receiver). MAGS: 1 HK 20-rd. mag., marked with a "JA" (90) date code. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory shipping box (shipping label showing shipment from Heckler & Koch) containing styrofoam insert, factory manual, as well as a printed piece of material briefly detailing the importation history of the SP89. CONDITION: near new, with metal components retaining virtually all of their original factory finishes overall. Trigger pack housing exhibits a light dragline. Brilliant mirror chrome lined bore, retaining sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Polymer furniture is excellent overall. Box shows some light exterior wear, but otherwise remains sound. An exceedingly fine example of a Heckler & Koch SP89 pistol that would be find virtually impossible in terms of condition to upgrade from. (25-2863/MLW). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
