Lot 1222 SELDOM ENCOUNTERED, VIRTUALLY NEW, NORINCO

TYPE 56S-3 SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE WITH ORIGINAL FACTORY BOX & ACCESSORIES. Cal. 7.62x39mm. S# 200040. Bbl. 16 1/4". Type 56 (56S-3) semi-automatic rifle mfg. by Norinco and imported by IA Co. The left side of the trunnion is stamped "56", followed by the S# "200040", with the only other markings being IA Co.'s importer information on the left side of the bbl., and a partially legible "NORINCO 7.62x39mm" marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bolt carrier and bolt, which are polished in-the-white. Piston appears to exhibit a chrome finish. Highly desirable red phenolic resin forearm, handguard, grooved pistol grip, and fixed buttstock with flat steel trapdoor buttplate. AK pattern post front sight with tangent V-notch rear sight marked "D" (in the lowest position) and graduated 1-8. Stamped receiver without optic rail. Chrome lined bore features an AKM pattern slant brake and bayonet lug. All serialized parts are matching and include the receiver (trunnion), mainspring guide rod, bolt carrier, and bolt. Gas cyl. tube has not been removed to preserve condition and factory grease, but if numbered is presumed to be matching. MAGS: 1 blued steel 30-rd. mag. (in original packaging) and 2 Factory 66 red phenolic resin / bakelite 30-rd. mags. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: original unnumbered shipping box containing aforementioned mags., red phenolic resin / bakelite Type II bayonet (with scabbard), green plastic oiler, manual, as well as a green web canvas & leather sling. Type II bayonet, oiler, and sling remain in their original plastic factory packaging. CONDITION: exceedingly fine, with metal components retaining virtually all of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting a layer of grease overall. Receiver exhibits an extremely faint dragline from the selector lever. Chrome lined bore retains its original thick layer of factory grease. Rifling is not visible beneath grease, but is presumed to be virtually new. Red phenolic resin furniture is excellent overall. Lightly tested action functions appropriately when cycled by hand. Box shows age related discoloration and some mild wear, but otherwise remains sound and serviceable. A highly sought after variation due to scarcity alone, this example being virtually new in the box is a true holy grail for the advanced AK collector and/or enthusiast. (25-2933/MLW). MODERN. $2,500-3,500.
