^Lot 1023 FULLY TRANSFERABLE C&R S.F.P.D. COLT MODEL 1921AC

THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 6889. Bbl. 13". One of 14 iconic Colt Thompsons shipped to the Hall of Justice for the San Francisco Police Department in May of 1929. It was manufactured between 03/21-07/22. Between these dates 15,000 Thompson Machine Guns were manufactured by the Colt Firearms Corporation of Hartford, CT. Each gun manufactured was given the designation, and marked as the Model of 1921. In the mid 1920s Colt offered an enhanced version of the Model 1921, marketed as the 1921AC (such as this gun) which included the addition of a Cutts Compensator to help manage muzzle rise. This particular gun is listed in Gordon Herigstad's book, "Colt Thompson Submachine Gun Serial Numbers and Histories" as being delivered to the Hall of Justice, c/o Property Clerks Office, Rm. 108, and noted as marked S.F.P.D. on the left side of the receiver, on page 710. This gun has a blued finish and the muzzle is terminated w/ unmarked Cutts compensator, integral w/ the front blade sight. Barrel is finned above the vertical foregrip. Receiver properly marked: "MODEL OF 1921." w/ serial number, "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN / CALIBRE .45 COLT AUTOMATIC COLT CARTRIDGE / MANUFACTURED BY / COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A." on left. Fire control markings are "FULL / AUTO" & "SINGLE". Above trigger it is stamped "S.F.P.D." as indicated in the Colt Thompson book. Right side receiver markings include; "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION / NEW YORK U.S.A. & Patent block ending w/ DECEMBER 28, 1920" as well as "JHB", acceptance stamp for John H. Barrett, Colt's quality control inspector. Top of receiver marked w/ "Thompson" bullet logo forward of rear sight. Trigger frame stamped "NO 6889", matching receiver serial number. Push button, detachable hardwood shoulder stock w/ metal butt plate & trap door. Trap door in shoulder stock still retains fiber cushion inside. Shoulder stock marked w/ small anchor at front, close to metal in quick detach assembly as used by the stock-maker Remington Arms. Gun has correct 1928 internals consisting of the weighted actuator w/ knurled cocking handle & bronze Blish lock. MAGS: (5 total) 1 parkerized "New York" 50 rd. L-Drum, drum marked "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORP NEW YORK N.Y., U.S.A. PATENTED JULY 27, 1920 DEC 7, 1920 & 4 steel 20 rd. stick mags. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black folding case w/ blue velvet interior & cleaning rod. CONDITION: finish enjoys fairly complete coverage while wearing some time earned thinning on high spots & sides of the receiver as often happens w/ long time case storage & in areas of mechanical intervention. Barrel finish is much more uniform. Wood furniture has some typical scratches & impressions. Shoulder stock has a light crack, visible under close inspection, that appears only aesthetic. Hardcase is usable but demonstrates some heavy corrosion on the hinges & steel fixtures. While side latches function correctly, the center latch is broken but all parts are included. Leather handle has disintegrated, leaving steel loop behind. Leather reinforcements at corners are still present but demonstrate significant wear. Bore has a mix of frosty & shiny areas, retaining strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function smoothly & correctly when cycled by hand.
