Lot 1012 EARLY HIGH CONDITION MAUSER MODEL 1932

SCHNELLFEUER SELECT-FIRE MACHINE PISTOL WITH STOCK & SPARE MAGAZINE. Cal. 7.63mm (7.63x25mm Mauser). S# 6269. Bbl. 5 1/4". Circa 1930, Mauser, found it was losing traction in the highly competitive Chinese market from the Spanish firms Royal and Astra, whom were producing select-fire variations of their C96 style pistols. In turn, Mauser quickly pushed notable small arms designer Josef Nickl (an employee in Mauser's experimental department) to design a select-fire iteration of their iconic C96 pistol to remain competitive. Nickl's design, patented in 1930, was quickly produced and shipped to China, where problems with the select-fire mechanism were soon made apparent. By 1932, Karl Westinger (another of Mauser's experimental department employees) designed an improved select-fire lever variation, of which most collector's and historians are familiar with today. Approx. 95,000 total Mauser Schnellfeuer machine pistols were produced in total between the two variations between 1931-1936, largely attributing to their scarcity in the collector and enthusiast market. This example, a Westinger patent Model 1932 Schnellfeuer, is marked with Mauser's 3-line address across the top flat of the faceted breech, with a double crowned "U" proof marked on the left quarter flat (also present on the top of the bolt), and the S# marked on the left flat. Left side of the frame features Westinger's distinctive selector lever, with selector markings "N" and "R", followed by the Mauser banner logo, with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/ OBERNDORF A. NECKAR/ D.R.P.u.A.P." marked on the right. Frame and bbl./bbl. extension exhibit a polished salt blue finish, with some small parts including the trigger, extractor, and bolt stop exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Extractor and bolt stop appear to have been partially reheated at one time, exhibiting areas of straw coloration. Bolt and top flat of the rear sight leaf are polished in-the-white. Sub-frame assembly exhibits a dull gray appearance. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips, featuring an integrally machined lanyard provision and a lanyard ring on the butt. Standard C96 pattern fixed blade front sight and tangent V-notch rear sight graduated 50-1000. All serialized parts are matching and include the bbl./bbl. extension as well as the frame (interior). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: proper unnumbered wood shoulder/stock, marked with the Mauser banner logo on one side. This example is also accompanied by a spare trigger return spring. MAGS: x1 blued steel 10-rd. and x1 blued steel 20-rd., both marked with the Mauser banner logo on the floorplate and both appearing to have been refinished at one time. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory salt blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild edge wear, a patch and streak of wear on the underside of the bbl. (stock insertional and storage wear), some scattered small spots of light surface oxidation, as well some scattered superficial scratches and small handling marks that are predominately present on the forward edges of the mag. well and underside of the breech section of the bbl. Rear grip strap has largely faded to a gray patina, with scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting present on the front strap. Nitre blued parts show areas of wear at contact points, with strong nitre bluing remaining in protected areas. Polished in-the-white parts retain a bright appearance, showing some spots of age related discoloration. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots and small patches of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are very good, exhibiting some superficial handling marks and small impressions from handling and storage, with typical semi-circular impressions present on the butt from the lanyard ring. Stock shows scattered superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. Metal hardware has mostly faded to a gray patina, exhibiting some spots of light surface oxidation and age related discoloration. An early, high condition, and attractive example of a desirable Mauser Model 1932 Schnellfeuer machine pistol. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT CURIO & RELIC MACHINE GUN REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. (03-1934/MLW). CURIO CLASS III. $10,000-15,000.
