Antique large frame lever action repeating rifle chambered in .38-56 Winchester, manufactured circa 1890. This rifle has been modified into carbine configuration by shorting the barrel, magazine and forearm. The work has been done a long time age. Features a 22" octagon barrel, 13 1/4" tube magazine and 6 1/2" forearm. Dovetailed front sight with German silver blade, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, smooth walnut forend with metal cap and straight grip shoulder stock with crescent metal buttplate, sling swivels are installed in stock and magazine tube, probably at the time of modification. Rifle exhibits a molted bright metal finish with scattered patches of brown patina, the lever, top of the bolt and the hammer have been painted in gloss black, action is smooth, the bore is fair to good/bright with rifling, scattered very light pitting and the wood stocks are overall good/sound with scratches/dings, have an old coat of varnish. Comes with a Cody Firearms Museum letter confirming this started out as a rifle, octagon barrel, and correct caliber. Shipped on June 9, 1892. Also included is a set of Lee 38-56 reloading dies, a set of Redding dies, a box of reloaded 38-56 cartridges weighting 5.6 lbs, a box of Magnus no.908 38/55 .378 Dia, bullets weighting 10.8 lbs and a small box of Barnes .375" 255 gr. FNSP .032" bullets.
