Lot 833 Civil War Sharps .52 Linen Cartridges.

Rare Civil War ammunition artifact, is an opened pasteboard box of ten linen cartridges made specifically for the .52 caliber Civil War Sharps breechloading carbine. The brown-beige colored, paper-wrapped container is a two-piece box with thin wrap. Within the pasteboard box are five .52 caliber linen cartridges, 5 missing. One cartridge is intact with powder in place with the other four the black powder is missing and packed with cotton for appearance. The original brown paper wrap retains its printed label in black ink that reads: “10 CARTRIDGES / For Sharps’ Improved Rifle / 52/100 caliber / SHARPS RIFLE MANUF’G CO. / HARTFORD, CONN.” There is a separation on one corner of the lower box. There is a vintage label on the bottom of the box for John P. Lower's Sons, Denver, Colo. Entire box wears slight surface grime and has some light staining. Great display with your Model 1863 Sharps carbine.
