Lot 695 Japanese Type 32 Otsu’ Cavalry Sword.

M1889 type 32 sword. The second pattern, known as Otsu,’ was issued to Army NCO's. Machined blade with Katana profile. Saw service Russo-Japanese war, WW1, and WW2. 30" blade, single edge with long fuller below the flat spine. Leather finger loop in guard. Steel guard has a checkered steel back strap and dove head pommel. Checkered wooden grips. Guard marked with the Tokyo artillery arsenal stacked cannon balls, date character for Meiji period (1868-1912) and arsenal control stamps, leather washer in place. Single loop steel scabbard with locking catch, brass lined throat. Ricasso serial number of "77719", number marked on the scabbard drag is "75753". Overall very good, bright blade, with very light signs of sharpening on the edge with some dried cosmoline, some shallow "door dents" on the scabbard. Original Japanese sword, not the Chinese copy.
