^Lot 466 Mukden/China Type 38 carbine 6.5mm 611995

Rarely seen Japanese Arisaka Type 38 Carbine in 6.5mm that was manufactured in Manchuria at the Mukden Arsenal. This is matching by serial number on receiver and bayonet lug, (Mukden did not have the SN on bolt), assembly number "1251" matched on bolt handle and extractor. These carbines are quite scarce and were made for the Japanese Kwantung Army in China. Mukden made rifles are extremely scarce and rarely seen. They are extremely well made and identical to the quality of the Japanese made rifles. 19.2" barrel, protected inverted V front sight, correct rear carbine sight, receiver marked "Type 38" with partially ground mum with most of outline remaining, no cleaning rod, left side mounted sling swivels, "egg" bolt knob,dust cover stamped "775", small inspectors stamps on small parts. rare correct issued leather sling attached with Japanese writing on the inside. Nitre blue finish still present on the magazine follower, hinged floorplate. Bore is very good/bright, strong rifling. marking are clear, original finish is about 605 with handling wear and the wood is overall good/sound with many dents/dings. No import marks. This carbine was brought back by Joseph Gaetano of the Bronx, NY who was in the heavy Weapons Plt. of the 169th Infantry Reg.
Served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as part of the 43rd Infantry Division. Fought in the New Guinea, Northern Solomons, and Luzon campaigns, including the recapture of the Munda Airfield on New Georgia Island and the liberation of Bataan and Manila. After the war, the unit served in occupation duty in Japan. Comes with tag with his information, history.
