Lot 220a London Fine Damascus Exposed Hammer Shotgun 12 ga

NVSN American Native Indian wire-wrapped and tacked double bbl exposed hammer shotgun marked London Fine Damascus on the bbl and maker marked on lock is covered by copper wire wrapping (last 3 letters __ ELL). An illegible marking is engraved on small plate in stock's belly. The gun is 12 ga measuring 42 1/2" overall with bbls neatly shortened to 27" from 28" to 30" originally. The copper wire wrapping probably obtained from telegraph wires and tacks from upholstery. In our expert opinion (J.R. Gangel), tacks are 100 percent,as is the wire wrap, genuine to period of use. The condition is fair to poor with bbls dented, one firing pin replaced and not allowing gun to open as stuck forward after firing. Locks up well and action crisp. Stocks worn with many imperfections. Provenance: Richard Sweet Collection who actively sought western artifacts for 50 years and who's family in New Mexico were among earliest arms and bowie knife collectors. This is an excellent wall hanger and shotguns were favored by many frontiersmen for bush fighting, loading them with buckshot and ball. General Crooks carried two English doubles on the hunt for Geronimo.
Condition is NRA Fair
