Lot 214a Remington 1858 New Model Army. .44 cal.

SN: 91826. Antique U.S. Army contract single action percussion revolver chambered for .44 caliber ammunition, circa 1863-1875. Features an 8" octagonal barrel, small blade front sight, 'v' notched rear sight, loading lever, non-fluted six shot cylinder with safety notches, smooth trigger, knurled hammer spur, brass trigger guard and two-piece walnut grips. Serial numbers match on the frame, cylinder and barrel. Inspector stamps are found on the loading lever, frame, trigger guard and barrel, feint inspector's cartouche on left grip. Revolver exhibits no original blue with a gray patina with scattered patches of pitting including some deep pits. The patent date on the barrel is very faint, mostly readable. The bore is fair to good, strong rifling, some scattered light pitting, nipples appear good. Action works well. The serial number puts it in the Civil War time frame. Approximate date of manufacture-August, 1864.
