Lot 199 Colt Single Action Army 'Mitch Bouyer' .45 LC
Colt S. A. Army Revolver Serial #20743, with period shoulder stock attachment screwed into butt and extensive research history and publication provenance as to ownership and use by "Mitch Bouyer", scout for Custer, killed at the Battle of Little Big Horn June 25, 1876. The subject revolver shows a dark brown patina finish with scattered rust and erosion and some pitting. Markings are legible and visible numbers matching. The grips show strong traces of varnish along with "weathering" from exposure to the elements. Hammer and small parts are all early except ejector rod head which is a slightly later Colt part. The bottom of the grips show Boyer's name and 7 CAV carved into wood. Provenance: Colt Cavalry, Artillery and Militia Revolvers by Keith Cochran where it is prominently featured; Colt Peacemaker Encyclopedia; "A Scout's Colt" by Ron Graham, ink signed by him detailing this Colt; Guns Magazine May 1979; Arms Gazette June 1979; Gun Report March 1980, The Collection of Mr. Knox Baldwin, Head of Tennessee National Guard and prominent Colt collector to several major Colt collectors in the Western U.S.A.
