Lot 184 Winchester Model 1892 "BATJAC' .44-40 #318130
Model 1892 lever-action carbine stamped "BAJAC", "31" in block letters on the underside of the receiver below the serial number. (Missing the T). The left shoulder stock is also stamped "31". Co-founded by John Wayne and Robert Fellows in 1952, initially named Wayne/Fellows Productions. The name Batjac was inspired by a fictitious trading company in the movie Wake of the Red Witch, though it was misspelled on company documents. Batjac produced a range of films, including Hondo, McLintock and Big Jake. Vintage Model 92 manufactured 1905, 'Eastern Carbine' with 20" barrel, full length tube magazine, 2 barrel bands, the sporting rear sight is missing the elevator and front sight is missing the blade and the lower barrel band is missing the screw. The serial number has been re-stamped over the original which is feint but readable, the crescent buttplate appears to be a replacement as it it not a good fit to the wood, the bore is dark/rough with pitting, the Winchester markings are feint from handling, mostly readable with the exception of the first line of the barrel address which is unreadable. The dull blue finish is about 60% with handling wear, scratches, the lever and top of the bolt have light pitting. Has seen had use consistent with a movie studio gun. The wear on the stampings are consistent with the overall condition of the gun.
