Lot 79 Winchester Model 1873 .44-40 #99597
Early 'Third Model' manufactured circa 1881. Features 24" round barrel, full length magazine tube, German silver front sight blade elevation adjustable v-notch rear sight, (Notch appears to have been widened), straight wrist, finger lever latch, smooth sliding dust cover with side rear serrations, steel crescent buttplate with compartment for cleaning gear. Bore is fair condition, light pitting throughout, with visible rifling. Metal surfaces show a mostly dull blue/gray color, receiver has some patches of light pitting . Screw slots are generally good with some slight marring. Wood is overall good/sound, with many minor dents and scratches throughout, a couple of notches cut in the right forearm. Butt has good fit to tang. Dust cover and lever are a little loose but Action performs well. Model marking on top tang is clear, readable. two line barrel address is clear, readable and serial number on bottom tang is feint but readable. Brass lifter is unmarked, no caliber mark observed on the barrel.
