Custom Schoyen Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Off Hand Target Rifle. Winchester serial number dates to 1898. George C. Schoyen was born in Norway in 1845 and emigrated to the U.S., settling in Denver, Colorado in 1861. His workmanship was considered to be among the finest and the rifle barrels he built became famous throughout the U.S. for their accuracy. Schoyen died in 1916. This single shot rifle was modified for Schuetzen competition with a George Schoyen 31" heavy octagonal target barrel. (33" with false muzzle) Custom walnut stock which features the high comb, shadow line cheek rest for right handed shooting, radical drop, fine checkering at the wrist, schnabel fore tip, nickel Swiss buttplate marked "O.A. Bremar / Maker / San Francisco”. Fitting for palm rest installed in forearm,Vernier six-aperture ''Combination Eye Cup'' windage adjustable peep tang sight, globe front sight, two scope bases installed on barrel, double set triggers, Pope style finger-grooved triggerguard/lever. The bore is very good/bright, the action is smooth, the finish has turned mostly a brown patina with traces of case color on the receiver and the wood is overall good/sound with minor scratches/dings, there is a 3 1/2' hairline crack with a small chip in the left forearm forward of the receiver. Comes with 2.75 lbs of .32-40 cartridge casings, vintage globe front sight, vintage Schuetzen Bullet Lubricator, bullet starter (too big for this rifle) and two breech seating tools in .32-40 caliber.
