Lot 59 Colt Bisley .32-20 #312144

Single action revolver manufactured circa 1909, chambered in 32-20. Serial number matched on frame. triggerguard, backstrap with matching partial serial number of "144' is scratched on the inside of the left grip panel., assembly number "510' on loading gate. One line barrel address, two line patent dates on left frame with 'Rampant Colt in circle and left barrel model stamping is feint, caliber is clear. Features Bisley shaped grip frame, wide smooth trigger, wide knurled hammer, 5-1/2" barrel, blued finish, checkered black composition grips with Rampant Colt emblems. Bore is overall good/bright with a dark ring about 2 1/2" from the chamber with a corresponding very slight budge in the barrel . The blue, case color finish has turned a molted gray/grown finish. Grips have wear to the checkering and Rampant Colts showing a color closer to chocolate brown on left panel with most of checkering worn smooth. Action is smooth with good lock-up. Markings are crisp, except where noted. Comes with Colt factory letter with listed configuration matching the revolver. One of a three gun shipment sent to Juan H. Kipp, Guadalajara, Mexico on December 28, 1909. Also comes with a period Piteado holster rig Butterscotch leather with geometric design and floral and vine motif with matching holster and belt buckle. Unmarked. Piteado artisan technique is where the pita or fiber from the century plant is embroidered onto leather into decorative patterns. The snap holsters interior and back are lined with red suede adornrd with seven floral conchos. The belt buckle depicts two cocks fighting inside a horseshoe. Shows wear, scuffed But complete and sound. Revolver is a perfect fit. Mr Kipp had the largest store in Guadalajara, Jalisco. John Harvy Kipp AKA Juan H. Kipp, was originally from Amsterdam, spent some time in New York, before finally moving to Guadalajara. He Latinized his name after living in Mexico for a few years. Kipp also imported firearms for Parker Brothers. Mexico, then as now, was in a cyclical state of turmoil with competing political factions and numerous rebellions. Guadalajara, the capital of the Mexican state of Jalisco, was no exception. Not long after this revolver was shipped began the Mexican Revolution of 1910. This gave rise to the likes of Pancho Villa (1878-1923) as a popular revolutionary, even as it precipitated the fall of Porfirio Díaz (1830-1915). In 1914, Villa would ride into Guadalajara and demand a sort of ransom from the upper crust in the city and give it to his supporters in the area. A first generation Colt SAA with a great history.
