Remington Arms Model 14 1/2 Take Down Pump Action Rifle 44 Rem
Made in 1915 - Serial number 45812
Rare find here - A Take Down in 44 Rem by Remington.
The Remington Model 14 1/2 Slide Action, Sporting Rifle was introduced a year after
the Model 14 rifle. Both were chambered for .38-40 W.C.F. or .44-40 W.C.F.
ammunition. The Model 14 1/2 was nearly identical to the Model 14, except for the
chambering, barrel length and markings.
In all, 125,020 Model 14 rifles and Model 14½ rifles were made in the 23 years of
production through 1934, when they were discontinued and replaced by Remington
Model 141 rifles.
The barrel measures 22 inches long. The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp.
There is faint intermittent erosion throughout the grooves.
The front sight is beaded blade dovetailed and set screwed to the barrel. The rear
sight is a u-notch dovetailed to the barrel with an elevation wheel.
The stocks are two-piece walnut with round grooved slide handle, smooth semi-pistol
grip, straight comb, and Remington checkered steel buttplate.
The LOP measures 13 1/2 inch from the front of the trigger to the back of the
buttplate. There is a crack on the left and right side of the grip at the receiver and
each side has been repaired with a steel pin (see pictures).
The forestock also has a crack where the screw runs through to attach the wood grip
to the slide.
There are scratches, compressions, and nicks conducent with age.
Overall the stocks are in Fair to Good condition.
The butt plate appears to be wood.
This metal on this rifle retains about little of its original finish and is an even patina all over.
There is intermittent oxidation throughout. There are scratches and nicks.
The markings are clear.
Gun appears to function as intended.
