Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter Double Action Revolver, #42957, .44-40 cal., 7.5" barrel, blue finish, checkered hard rubber two-piece Colt grips, lanyard ring, blade front sight, and fixed "V"-notch rear sight. Factory markings are partially legible, with roll stamped "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side of the barrel. Mfgd 1899. Revolver is in good overall condition, with the metal surfaces worn to a mottled gray color, with moderate to heavy surface erosion, scattered spots of pin prick pitting, and a couple of hash marks cut in to the right side of the barrel. Cylinder shows heavy wear with light pitting and erosion. Grips with smoothing to the checkering detail. Right panel has a few horizontal hash marks carved into it. Action is loose and does not function, holding at full-cock and will require service. Bore is poor, with moderate to heavy erosion, rifling is visible. Est.: $800-$1,200. (C&R)
