Early Griffin & Howe Over/Under Sporting Shotgun, #581, 20 ga., 28" steel barrels have a solid matted rib sighting plane, 2-3/4" chambers, and are choked IC/CYL. Boxlock action with sideplates uses an underbolt lockup plus a double Greener crossbolt to close the action, which features a single selective trigger, non-automatic safety, and selective ejectors. Receiver and sideplates are ornately engraved with game bird scenes, surrounded by rose and scroll embellishments. Slender, 3-piece forend and round knob pistol grip buttstock are oil finished "B" grade walnut, nicely checkered at 24 LPI, and finished with a Pachmayr "White Line" buttplate. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8" x 1-7/8" x 2-3/4". Mfgd after 1923 in Belgium, but before WWII. Condition is very good, with expected marks to wood and nominal wear to action, which closes tight, has one ejector problem; bores are mirror bright. Est.: $750-$1,000. (C&R)
