E. Whitney U.S. Model 1841 Mississippi Percussion Rifle, #NVSN, .58 cal., 33" barrel, browned finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, with fixed "U"-notched rear sight. Lockplate is marked "E. WHITNEY/U.S." in front of the hammer with "1854" behind the hammer. Barrel is partially marked on top. Ramrod appears correct and is full-length with threads on the bottom. The musket was converted from .54 cal. to .58 cal. for the Civil War. Condition is good overall. Metal has a dark patina and the brass furniture has a pleasing color. Stock is marked "H. Mc IImoil" on the left of the buttstock, and shows heavy use, with scratches and dents throughout. There is a 2" crack in front of the buttplate tang, and wood is missing under the hammer. Action functions correctly. Bore has rifling to the muzzle with visible light surface rust. Est.: $1,000-$1,400. (Antique)
