Lot 375 Bangwa Bamoun Ngambe Head Mask
Central Africa, Cameroon, Grassfields Kingdoms of Cameroon, Ngambe, Bangwa or more specifically probably the Bamoun peoples or Kingdom of Bamoun head / helmet mask. Hand carved mask depicts a pleasant, smiling face with puffy cheeks, hair in two buns on either side of the head. Carved in hard and dense wood in the stylistic form of an ancestor. Size: 18" H, 12 1/4" W. Condition: Commensurate with age and use.. Provenance: Collected 1975. Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally.
