^Lot 1183 French Mexican Expedition Medal 1862-63

Commemorative medal of the Mexican Expedition in finely chiseled silver, on the obverse the legend NAPOLEON III EMPEROR surrounds the effigy of the crowned Emperor; on the reverse the inscription EXPEDITION FROM MEXICO 1862 - 1863 with the name of the battles of CUMBRES, CERRO-BORREGO, SAN-LORENZO, PUEBLA, MEXICO, with its original highly decorative ribbon, from 1863. Signed by Barre,(Famous Medallist 1818-1878) and has mark of a small anchor. This expedition resulted in the death of almost 7000 French soldiers, mostly from disease. Very Good condition.
