Lot 405a Colt 1851 Navy .36 Cal SN: 16271

Antique Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver, manufactured nine years before the beginning of American Civil War in 1852 in Hartford, Connecticut. (Second year of production.) 7 1/2" octagonal barrel, missing the sighting bead. The serial number matches on the frame, and triggerguard, but the barrel, and grip frame are marked "120814". (1862). The SN, and cylinder scene are worn with just traces remaining. The grip is a newer replacement, the wedge screw is a replacement, the cylinder does not index, the barrel/frame fit is poor, with a space between them. Metal finish is mostly a gray patina, with traces of an old blue refinish. "7" stamped on left trigger, barrel address is clear, "Colts Patent on frame is faint. Two of the serial numbers are very faint. Metal has many dents, & dings, and a V shaped chip out of the cylinder. Has seen very hard use. More than likely fitted with the newer barrel during the Civil War in 1862. Bore is rough/dark. NRA Condition-Poor to Fair. Antique Firearm.
