Joseph Sladen was O. O. Howard's clerk and aide through the Civil War, Indian Wars, Freedman's Bureau days, and West Point. 12" x 22" x 11.5", double hinged fold up front, locks at bottom. The interior has 10 compartments for documents. Two inset brass handles on either side. High security lock has functioning key labeled "JAS grandpa field desk". Desk is well constructed with dovetailed edges. CONDITION: very good overall. (02-17895-25/JS). $500-1,000.
