Lot 4288 SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1871 ROLLING BLOCK US ARMY RIFLE
Cal. 50-70. NSN. Bbl. 36". Mfg. 1871-1872. Fixed front & rear sights; rear sight appears modified. Two piece stock w/ two Bbl. bands; front band has a sling swivel. Bbl. in the white w/ case colored frame & tangs. Left stock flat w/ oval cartouche w/ Erskine Allen’s initials. Unit or rack number “15” just forward of the buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: “US” marked socket bayonet. CONDITION: breech block tip is snapped off. Metal has tarnishing & discoloration along w/ dried grease throughout. Frame retains strong case color but only remnants of the eagle on the right side w/ case color in it’s place. Light rust/corrosion right side frame. Stock shows typical dings, dents & chipping around the ramrod channel. Bore is good plus, reasonably bright w/ strong rifling & light pitting. PROVENANCE: From the Raymond Darida Estate.
