Lot 3400 INTERESTING FEDERAL PERIOD EAGLE HEAD SWORD
RESEMBLING A PRAHL. Overall length: 34 1/4". Blade length: 28 1/2". This sword has a 3-fuller German import blade of the Federal era. It has been mounted, likely in the Philadelphia area, with a solid brass hilt reminiscent of swords done by Prahl. The plain guard terminates in a rudimentary shell quillon. Plain knuckle bow enters the base of a brass Philadelphia style eagle head pommel. The grip is round in contrast to Prahl’s faceted grips. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, lightly mottled patina. Hilt is a bit loose, but undamaged. Brass has a pleasing mellow mustard patina. (02-19202/BF). $1,200-1,800.
