Lot 3044 REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD NAVAL BAR SHOT.
This rare surviving bar shot is from the Revolutionary War period. It measures approx. 12 1/2” in length with a 4 2/3" diameter. Shot like this was used when firing into the rigging and at the masts of enemy ships. It was designed to tumble and cause maximum damage, thus disabling the enemy. This shot is likely designed to be fired from a 12 pounder. CONDITION: bar shot has an overall oxidized patina, but remains quite solid. (02-19574/BF). $1,500-2,000.
