Lot 1498 WWI ERA BRITISH BASKET HILT BROADWSORD.

Overall length 40”. Blade length 31 3/8”. The double fullered blade is etched over 18 1/2" of its length with various foliate motifs, including thistles and a crowned “GR”. Very intricate full basket hilt with numerous heart-shaped piercings throughout. The interior of the basket is lined with blue-edged red felt. The pommel is decorated with a red silk tassel. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade is exceptionally dirty but appears to retain original factory polish. Hilt shows light wear overall, as does the scabbard. A late, but visually appealing sword.
