^Lot 3578 ARTILLERY SHOD HAND SPIKE.

Overall length: 62 1/2". Width is 3" at the base. The artillery hand spike was used to adjust the horizontal aiming of a cannon. This example has a heavy wooden painted shaft chamfered toward the end. There is a heavy iron fitting at the base approx. 10" long attached on each side w/ 3 heavy iron nails. CONDITION: there is minor chipping at the end of the handle. Paint is 95%+ intact. Iron base shows a dark oxidized patina. (02-14238/BF). $400-600.
