Rarely seen Allen patent dbl. bbl. shotgun. 26" Twist bbls. w/ central spine of hinged breech “ETHAN ALLEN & CO. WORCHESTER MASS / ALLENS PATs NOV 9 1858, SEPT 18 1860, AUG 22 1865”. Included in this lot is 4 loadable shotgun shells “Allen’s Pat May 16, 1865” stamped on base, w/ the original leather cartridge box & green labeled “250 / Water Proof Primer / for ALLEN’S / Breech-Loading Double Barrel / Shotguns.”. PROVENANCE: ex-collection Phillip Van Cleave, ex-collection Paul Henry. CONDITION: gun is very good overall, traces of finish on patent hinged breech. Remainder of iron is gray w/ scattered light pitting, engraving crisp. Stocks well fit, checkering worn on forestock. Pinned inset repairs to buttstock between trigger guard & back of frame. Mechanically fine w/ clean smooth bores. (01-18560/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
