Civil War Colt Model 1849 Percussion Pocket Revolver, #239838, .31 cal., 4'' octagonal barrel marked ''Address Col. Saml. Colt New-York U.S. America'' in one line on top flat, 6-shot round cylinder; open-top frame is marked ''Colt's/Patent'' (very faint) on left side; brass gripstraps marked ''31 Cal.'' on left rear triggerguard bolster and ''5'' on front web; one-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd 1863. Condition is about good with no original finish, the barrel and lever having a smooth brown patina, the frame dark brown with scattered erosion, the cylinder scene and serial number obscured by battering and pitting, the straps with a dark age patina, the butt showing knackering. Grips with 7 ''kill notches'' on left side and losses at toes and left bottom, two replaced screws. All visible serial numbers match including the wedge (lever is correctly unnumbered). Action is faulty; bore is surprising clean with definite rifling. Est.: $400-$650. (Antique)
