Lot 776 Antique Colt Metallic Cartridge Pocket Revolver
Antique Colt Metallic Cartridge Pocket Revolver, #4319, .38 RF cal., 3.5'' barrel, with brass post front (and hammer-notch rear) sights marked with the Colt name and address in two lines; 5-shot rebated round cylinder with the ''stagecoach hold-up'' rolled scene; frame with attached conversion ring is marked with the two-line 1871-72 patent dates; brass gripstraps marked ''36 Cal'' on left rear triggerguard bolster; varnished one-piece walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1873-80, originally with full nickel-plated finish. Condition is very good. Barrel, cylinder and frame retain approx. 15% original nickel (difficult to discern as colors match closely), cylinder with 45% light scene, gripstraps with 85% nickel. Grips are sound showing light wear and 25% original varnish. Visible serial numbers match; action is extremely tight; bore is clean showing general black powder erosion and distinct rifling. As evidenced by its unique barrel contour and serial number, this gun was Colt factory produced as a cartridge gun, and not converted from surplus percussion parts (with the exception of the ''36 Cal''-marked gripstraps). Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
