Lot 775 Colt 2nd Model Spurtrigger Cartridge Derringer

Antique Colt 2nd Model Spurtrigger Cartridge Derringer, #8981, .41 RF cal., 2.5'' teardrop-shaped barrel is marked on top flat ''Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co./Hartford, CT U.S.A.'' and ''No. 2'', flanked by Maltese crosses; loosely floral-engraved iron frame with integral trigger sheath and ''bird's head'' grips, marked ''41 Cal'' in tiny letters under a right-side knurled button that releases the swing-out barrel for cartridge loading, extraction and cleaning; knurled hammer and trigger faces; varnished two-piece coarsely-checkered walnut grips. Mfg'd ca. 1870-90. Condition is very good. Metal with no original finish, very light scattered peppering (dings to left side of barrel), clear markings and engraving. Grips with light wear, approx. 80% original varnish and nice color. Action is smooth; bore with black powder etching and obscured rifling. Est.: $400-$700. (Antique)
