Lot 417 Remington Old Model 1861 Army Perc. Revolver

Civil War Remington Old Model 1861 Army Percussion Revolver, with reproduction black leather holster, #2098, .44 cal., 8'' octagonal barrel, with a dovetailed German-silver cone front sight marked with the 1861 patent date and maker's name and address in two lines on top flat, and ''JJ'' on left flat at juncture with frame; plain round 6-shot cylinder; solid frame with integral grip straps is also marked ''JJ'' at left breech; brass triggerguard; two-piece walnut grips. This low-number example has the early Beals type frame with concealed barrel threads at breech. Serial numbers match. Mfg'd 1862, in a quantity of approx. 6,000 guns. Condition is very good, the steel parts retaining no original finish but showing an overall brownish-gunmetal color with intermittent pitting, the brass with a cleaned patina. Grips are solid having perhaps been sanded and refinished. Nipples are replacements. Action is smooth and strong; bore is shiny exhibiting deep rifling. Holster is very good with tight stitching, a large ''US'' oval cartouche on flap and general surface marks from use. Est.: $500-$900. (Antique)
