Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Sporting Rifle, #81381, .30-40 Krag CF cal., blued 28'' tapered round barrel, with raised blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights, marked ''Nickel Steel Barrel/Especially for Smokeless Powder'' and ''30 U.S.'' on left side at breech; blued receiver is marked with maker's name, address and seven 1895-1907 patent dates on left side (receiver tang markings are covered by brass wire wrapping, assumed to reinforce a break at stock wrist); blued box magazine, loop operating lever and trigger; varnished walnut forend with Schnabel tip having a horn (or ebony) inlay, and matching buttstock with crescent rifle buttplate. Mfg'd 1915. Condition is very good as repaired. Barrel retains approx. 98% military blue, receiver 20% flaked blue, lever and other blued parts with approx. 75% original finish, buttplate gunmetal gray. Stocks are sound and smooth retaining 85% original finish, light handling/use marks, and aforementioned mend at wrist. Action is strong and smooth; bore is clean with defined rifling.
