Lot 147 Cased Colt 2nd Gen. Robt.E.Lee 1851 Navy Revolver
Colt 2nd Generation ''Robert E. Lee Commemorative'' Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver, with wood case and accessories, #1180, .36 cal., 7.5'' octagonal barrel marked on top flat ''-Address Saml Colt New-York City-'', and ''Robert E. Lee Commemorative - Nineteen Seventy One'' on left flat (and on case); round 6-shot cylinder is roll engraved with naval battle scene and marked ''Colt's Patent No. 1180 /Engraved by W.L. Ormsby, New York'' in two lines parallel to bores and ''Engaged 16 May 1843'' in tiny letters along its front circumference; case hardened frame is marked ''Colts/Patent'' in two lines on left side; case hardened hammer, lever and plunger; silver-plated brass backstrap and loop triggerguard; one-piece varnished walnut grips. Condition is excellent and unfired, retaining 100% original blued finish, brilliant case colors, silver with a soft patina, and fine grips with most original vanish showing minor handling marks and wear at bottom edges. Action is crisp; bore shows brilliant blue with deep rifling. Mahogany case retains all of its soft oil-stained finish with a brass ''Colt'' logo medallion inlay; case bottom is lined in gray velveteen and compartmented for the pistol, a copper and brass powder flask, brass bullet mold, Eley Bros. cap tin with green label, and nipple wrench-screwdriver, all in fine to excellent condition. Now almost a half-century old, these early Colt commemoratives are scarce and quite desirable. Est.: $500-$750. (No FFL Required)
