Marlin Model 1893 Takedown Lever Action Rifle, #264503, .30-30 WCF cal., blued 26'' octagonal barrel, with dovetailed bead-blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights, marked with the maker's name, address, and 1887-88-93 patent dates on top flat, ''Special Smokeless Steel'' flanked by diamonds on left angled flat, and ''30-30'' at breech; blued full-length tubular under-barrel magazine; case hardened receiver with right-side cartridge loading and ejection ports, is marked ''Marlin Safety'' on top; case hardened loop operating lever, hammer and crescent buttplate; varnished walnut forend (with steel nosecap) and buttstock. Mfg'd post-1904. Condition is fine+. Barrel retains approx. 90% thinning blue, the magazine 20%; receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate with traces of case colors but mostly silvered out. Stocks are smooth and solid with normal age and use marks, a chip missing from left buttstock at wrist, and nice grain and color. Action is smooth and sure; bore is brilliant with deep rifling. The Model 1893 was the first Marlin rifle chambered for smokeless powder cartridges; this one's takedown feature makes it special. Est.: $600-$1,000. (C&R)
