Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine, #120055, .45-70 Gov't. CF cal., blued 22'' barrel, with block-blade front and adjustable sliding-leaf rear sights, marked with maker's name and address in two lines on top, and ''45-70'' at breech; blued full-length tubular magazine, two steel barrel bands; steel receiver (with automatic extraction-ejection) has left-side sling stud and ring, is marked ''Model 1886'' on top tang, and with 1884-85 patent dates and ''120055'' on bottom tang; case hardened loop operating lever, hammer, forend cap and carbine buttplate; oil-stained walnut forend and buttstock. Mfg'd ca. 1899. Condition is very good. Barrel retains approx. 10% blue in protected places, mag tube with none, receiver has no finish but with a pleasantly smooth gunmetal patina, lever and hammer with traces of case colors. Stocks are sound with several nicks at left butt, but overall smooth with nice grain and color, and a 2'' crack ahead of top band. Action is smooth and sure; bore is clean with crisp rifling. The .45-70 caliber is especially desirable and valuable. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (C&R)
