Marlin Model 1893 Takedown Lever Action Rifle, #312580, .30-30 CF cal., blued 26'' octagonal barrel, with buckhorn style open sights, marked with maker's name, address, and 1887-89-93 patent dates in two lines on top flat, ''Special Smokeless Steel'' flanked by diamonds on left angled flat below rear sight, and ''30-30'' at breech; blued tubular cartridge magazine; case hardened receiver with right-side ejection is marked ''Marlin Safety'' on top, ''Model/1893'' on upper tang and serial number at lower front; loop operating lever; varnished walnut forearm with steel nose cap, matching buttstock with steel crescent buttplate. Mfg'd 1905. Condition is very good. Barrel and mag tube show a smooth, even overall blue-brown with sharp edges and lettering; receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate show some case colors but have mostly darkened/silvered out. Stocks are sound and smooth showing light marks of age and use, shallow gouges on forend and buttstock, and a later coat of varnish. Action is strong and smooth; bore shows overall frosting but sharp rifling. The Model 1893 was the first Marlin rifle chambered for the then-new smokeless powder cartridges. Est.: $500-$700. (C&R)
