Civil War Colt Model 1849 Percussion Pocket Revolver, #255447, .31 cal., 6'' octagonal barrel with brass post front sight marked with the one-line ''New-York U.S. America'' address; round 6-shot cylinder rolled with the familiar ''stagecoach hold-up'' scene; frame is marked ''Colts/Patent'' at left front; brass gripstraps are marked ''31 Cal.'' on left bolster of the large rounded triggerguard; one-piece varnished walnut grips. Mfg'd 1864. All serial numbers match including the wedge and loading lever. Condition is good to very good. Barrel and cylinder show a brown/gunmetal gray color (perhaps added after cleaning) over light pitting, cylinder with scattered battering and approx. 10% scene remaining, other steel surfaces a smooth gunmetal color, brass a clean goldenrod color. Grips are solid without cracks or chips and with perhaps a thin later coat of varnish. Action is smooth and tight; bore is etched but clean with distinct rifling. Est.: $500-$700. (Antique)
