Lot 30 Civil War Model 1861 Perc. Infantry Rifle-Musket

Civil War U.S. Model 1861 Percussion Infantry Rifle-Musket, Alfred Jenks & Son contract, NVSN, .58 cal., 40'' barrel, with block-blade front sight (doubles as a bayonet lug) and blued 2-leaf rear sight, is marked ''V/(eagle head)'' and ''1863'' at breech; flat beveled lockplate is marked ''(spread-wing eagle)'' to left of ''U.S./Bridesburg'' ahead of hammer, and ''1863'' to rear; steel furniture including three spring-retained barrel bands (middle with sling swivel), two-piece triggerguard with sling swivel at front, curved rifle buttplate marked ''US'' and ''s'' at top tang screw, and tulip-head ramrod. Condition is near-fine, metal surfaces having a clean ''arsenal-bright'' finish with sharp edges and clear markings, rear sight with 30% blue, and the oil-stained walnut fullstock being solid with scattered handling marks, initials carved on both sides of butt and under forearm, nice color and perhaps a later light coat of varnish.
