Civil War Spencer Lever Action Repeating Saddle Ring Carbine, #30271, .52 RF cal., 22'' barrel fitted with block-blade front and adjustable sliding-leaf rear sights; steel receiver is marked at top of breech ''Spencer Repeating/Rifle Co. Boston, Mass./Pat'd. March 6, 1860.'' in three lines, and mounted with a steel sling bar and ring on left side; serpentine operating lever, single spring-retained barrel band, carbine buttplate with hinged door opening to internal magazine holding 7 cartridges; oil-stained walnut forend and buttstock fitted with a sling swivel on belly. Mfg'd ca. 1863-65. Condition is very good with metal retaining an overall smooth brown color. Stocks are sound with the expected scars and marks of military use. Action functions smoothly; 6-groove bore is shiny with sharp rifling. Spencer arms received the personal endorsement of Pres. Abraham Lincoln after a trial on the grounds of the White House.
