Description: 24" x 36" These desert bighorn rams in southern Nevada are attempting to establish dominance which provides access to ewes in the rut. The ram on the right would walk away, tine the brush and then he'd stand on his hind legs. At the right moment, he would start the headlong charge toward the opposing ram. The "referee" adds an interesting touch to the photograph. The referee never participated in headbutting. Note the ram on the right is watching to ensure a direct headbutt! Great Wildlife Photos will have framed photographs for sale. My book "Fang, Hoof, and Claw: Wildlife Through a Biologist's Lens" will be available for autographing.
