Antique Hopkins & Allen ''XL Bull Dog'' Double Action Cartridge Revolver, #729, .38 CF cal., 3'' octagonal barrel with integral blade front sight, 5-shot fluted round cylinder, folding-spur hammer marked on right side ''Pat'd./Jan. 27. 85'' in two lines; solid frame with right side hinged loading gate marked on topstrap ''Hopkins & Allen M'fg. Co./Pat March 28, 1871'' in two lines to right of sighting groove and ''XL. Bull Dog./38 Cal. Centre Fire'' to left, with two-piece finely checkered hard rubber grips. Condition is very good retaining approx. 75% original dulling nickel plating (missing primarily on left side of frame); dulling blue on folding hammer, trigger and triggerguard. Grips show sharp checkering and a large chip missing at right butt. Action functions well in both single- and double action; bore is clean with discernable rifling. Est.: $150-$250. (Antique)
