Reproduction U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Officer's Model Trapdoor Single Shot Carbine, by Harrington & Richardson, with Styrofoam box, #8922, .45-70 Govt. CF cal., blued 26'' round barrel with dovetailed bead-blade front and folding adjustable Vernier rear tang sights marked on left side ahead of breech with a ''P'' proofmark and ''U.S. Model 1873/Cal. 45-70 Govt.'' in two lines, and ''Harrington & Richardson, Inc./Worcester, Mass. Made in U.S.A.'' on right; case hardened breech (marked ''Ser. No. 8922'' on right side, and ''H&R'' on left), trapdoor (marked ''US/Model/1873'' in three lines) and thumb release, lockplate (marked ''(spread eagle)/U.S./Springfield'' in two lines), hammer, triggerguard, single spring-retained barrel band, and buttplate (marked ''US'' behind top tang screw) are sparsely floral engraved; ''tree''-engraved pewter nosecap; single blued steel under-barrel ramrod finial; hardwood ramrod with knurled metal tip; varnished walnut halfstock with checkered panels at wrist and forend. Condition is near new and unfired, the blued parts retaining all of their original dark blue-black finish with a scratch at breech, the case hardened parts retaining all of their fiery tiger-stripe coloration (slight scratches to buttplate). Stock showing a lovely red color, tight grain, deep checkering, an encircled ''P'' proofmark under the wrist, and a few minor handling marks. Action is strong and smooth; bore shows shiny blue and deep rifling. Box is complete. Est.: $750-$1,500. (Modern)
